As vaping has become increasingly popular over the past years, the number of misconceptions regarding cheap e-liquids has also increased. The word ‘premium’ is used for almost every line of e-liquids, which increases the final price of an e-liquid bottle. But have you ever wondered what exactly you are paying for? Is there any justification for such high-priced e-liquids? Also, is there such a big difference between expensive and cheap e-liquids?
It makes sense for something labeled as ‘premium e liquid’ to have a higher price. But in the vaping industry ‘premium’ doesn’t always mean expensive, just as ‘cheap e-liquid’ doesn’t always mean low quality.
Breaking down the e-liquid base, we find that it consists of only 2 ingredients: Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerin (VG), which represents 85% – 95% of a bottle of e-liquid. As far as the VG and PG go, it is important to know that there is no such thing as ‘premium’ VG or PG.
The other percentage is the flavouring and nicotine. Today, there are numerous flavouring manufacturers in the world, each with different price points; this of course influences the final price of the e-liquid.
When it comes to nicotine, there are dozens of different natural and synthetic nicotine sources on the market. As with any other ingredient, the difference between natural and synthetic nicotine varies in quality and price. However, even though it is cheaper, it doesn’t mean that natural nicotine isn’t high quality. Natural nicotine has a nice smooth flavour that is barely noticeable, which is very similar to the pricier synthetic nicotine.
It is not only what goes into the e-liquid that increases the price of an e-liquid bottle. Another thing that needs to be taken into consideration are the bottles used to store the e-liquid. Even purchased in bulk, glass bottles are almost 10 times more expensive than plastic bottles. It is known that if a product comes in a pretty/ flashy package, people tend to believe it is worth more. Skull glass bottles, wooden gift boxes or any other fancy decorations will add more to the final price of the e-liquid.
The manufacturers of expensive ‘premium’ ejuices would argue that their product is far better than their ‘cheap’ e-liquid manufacturing competitors, due to using higher quality ingredients, more appealing branding and better packaging, however, the ultimate key aspects of the premium e-liquids should be only be the ingredients used and the flavour.
